The rain cleared just in time for the cross country on Monday and the temperature was perfect for the competitors running the cross country course. It was rather chilly for the spectators and gave us all a taste of the winter to come.
The events began with the 9 and 10 year old girl’s event. The marshals were very impressed with the pace set by Tess over the first lap and even more impressed that she managed to keep up the momentum and finish the 2km course in just over 8 minutes. The next competitor in was Kelly, who also put in a gallant effort. Rose was the first over the line for the 9 year old girls. Next up was the very keen 9-10 year old boys, who were jostling at the starting line, then got off to a cracking pace. Phillip came in first for the 10 year olds, followed by Hunter. It was a close finish for the 9 year old boys with Max just a stride in front of Alistair.
The title for the 11 year old boys was taken out by one of our keenest runners at school – Hayden. Hayden has been a big advocate for training for cross country both at home and in PE and this paid off for him. For the 12 year olds the title went to a very speedy Mackenzie who seemed to manage the course with ease. Tilly was the winner of the 11 year old girls, followed by Poppy. The 12 year old girl’s event was won by Matilda P.
The junior students also put in a big effort running the oval course. It was great to see them all trying their hardest and there was some great examples of sportsmanship shown by the youngest members of our school. There are some keen runners amongst the juniors and it will be fantastic to see them running the longer course in the years to come.
A big thank you to the parents who volunteered on the day- Daniel, Dani, Erin, Sharon and Susan. Without parent help we are unable to run these events, so we appreciate parents helping out whenever they can. Thank you to the teachers for their efforts on the day also!
Students in Grade 4,5 and 6 who came in the top 3 in their event will have the opportunity to represent the school at the District cross country at Yackandandah in Term 2.
