Indonesian and Asian Capabilities

Indonesian

The Indonesian program aims to develop students’ communication and thinking skills as well as enhancing their understanding of language and culture. They learn to communicate in another language, develop intercultural awareness and reflect on their own language and cultural identity.

Each class has a one hour lesson every week for Indonesian. Activities include games, songs, stories, videos, role-plays, craft and online tasks. Students focus on a particular theme or topic each term such as Sports, Family, Fruit or Pets. They develop their language skills through reading, writing, speaking and listening using a variety of texts relating to the topic.

Cultural studies are incorporated into the theme, for example through reading folktales, watching short documentaries or undertaking online research. It is hoped that through studying Indonesian, students at BPS gain a broader view and deeper appreciation for the diverse world in which we live.
